Toddler Tackled at College Football Practice

April 24th, 2007 by Jim Olding | No Comments

From ABC/AP -

A 4 year old got a little too in to the game by accident when he was accidentally tackled on the sidelines of a Colorado State intramural practice.  “During a play, one of the players caught a ball in the end zone and then slammed into Caden, with both crashing into a wall.”

He was taken to the hospital with a deep cut and received stitches, but is expected to fully recover.  He received a football autographed by the Colorado State team and a personal phone call from the coach the next day.

The site has video of it happening.

Fix for Windows Update Error 0xC800021F

April 22nd, 2007 by Jim Olding | No Comments

If you are getting error 0xC800021F on the Windows Update site on your Windows 2000 system, open a command line and run the following commands:

regsvr32 msxml32.dll /s
net stop wuauserv
cd /d %windir%\SoftwareDistribution
rd /s /q DataStore
net start wuauserv

This will register the MSXML DLL file correctly, then stops the Automatic Updates service (so that no temp files are locked), deletes the cache for Windows Update, and finally restarts the Updates service.  After you have done this, you should be able to run the Windows Update website normally.

Fix for Yellow Picture Previews in Vista

April 14th, 2007 by Jim Olding | No Comments

If your pictures in Vista open with a heavy yellow (almost sepia) tint, here’s the fix.  Right-click the Desktop, choose Personalize.  Click Display Settings.  Click Advanced Settings.  Open Color Management.  Place a check in ‘Use my settings for this device’.  Under Profiles, remove any existing ICC or WCS profiles.  Then click Add, and choose ’sRGB IEC61966-2.1′ from the list.  OK your way out of all the dialogs, then reboot.

If you have multiple profiles setup on your machine, you need to do this for each profile, or adjust the system default color profile (which is on that same screen, but will require admin privs).

Nestle to buy Gerber for $5.5bln

April 12th, 2007 by Jim Olding | No Comments

Nestle & GerberFrom WZZM/AP -

“Nestle SA announced today that it will buy the Michigan-based baby-food maker Gerber Products Co. from pharmaceutical giant Novartis AG for $5.5 billion, pushing it to No. 1 in the world’s baby food market.”

This is probably of interest to a lot of readers, since the main audience for this site is from the Fremont area.  Last time this happened was when Sandoz bought out Gerber, and it was then merged into Novartis.  Chances are pretty good that you either have a relative working for Gerber, or know someone who does.

Hopefully, Nestle will leave Gerber in Fremont.  It would become a ghost town if they were to leave.

Joost Beta Invites

April 3rd, 2007 by Jim Olding | No Comments

JoostI have 4 invites to give away for the Joost beta.  IM me with your email address you want the invite sent to.  I am out of invites.  If anyone else is feeling generous, you can give them away in this thread.

Joost is from the makers of Skype.  It is a peer to peer, streaming internet TV system, and you can watch whichever shows you want on demand.  It is actually legal, and they have licensed content from National Geographic, Comedy Central, and other distributors.

During the beta, there are no commercials.  It currently runs on Windows and OS X Intel.  A Linux version is planned.
